Antique Dental Chair: Are You Afraid Of The Dentist?

If so, imagine your shock when you walk into someone's house and see an antique dental chair sitting in the corner!!! Would it bring back terrifying memories for you? Would you be able to sit on it? Do you know what I would ask the owner? What on earth would possess somebody to have one of these in their house?

The only reason, that I can personally think of for somebody, to want an antique dental chair, is the fact that it is an antique and most antiques are considered as investments. It is also a unique thing to own, and I'm sure would be a talking point between the owner and anybody that visited their home. It's strange, but I always see them for sale on auction websites and advertising websites and I think to myself, where would these people have got such a random item to be able to sell it in the first place? The thought that it had been used, would make me cringe. Admittedly, not in the same way that I would cringe if I had bought a used hospital bed, but I still find the idea pretty strange.

Maybe, dentist surgeries use them in the waiting room etc. as a way of making it look better. I can't imagine them actually using them in the actual surgery. I don't know if I would, to have my teeth repaired on an antique!

I have actually found websites that have people who collect dental and medical paraphernalia and the dentist's chair is the ultimate antique to own! They spend hours trawling websites for antique dental chairs for sale, to complete their collection. Amongst the ones I have seen, they are around $300. Fairly expensive maybe, but it still, after all an antique. Obviously, the dental chairs that are in better condition will achieve a higher buying price as will a chair from an older time period.

Amongst the collector's I have found out about, there are a few in Arizona. Another thing I have noticed is that a lot of dental places in Arizona explain on their websites that their practice is comfortable with stylish antique furniture in the waiting rooms. Maybe this is where the majority of family-ran dental surgeries are and the antique furniture is passed down through the generations. I can't, personally imagine somebody presenting me with an antique dental chair, but I suppose you could always modify it to make it look good. After all, it does recline and all the rest of it, so I suppose you could always throw a blanket and a couple of cushions over it to make it look good in the living room!

I am absolutely petrified of dentist's, so I can't think of anything worse than having an antique dental chair in my home! I can see the appeal however to those who wish to collect antiques or dental paraphernalia, and I can imagine it being a pretty impressive thing to say.

I think though, these antique dental chairs should be presented to museums, just so you can see exactly how procedures and equipment has changed over the years, but not from your own front room!
